On April 27, 2026, our school hosted a debating competition with Schadow-Gymnasium. The topic of the debate was: “A Social Media Ban for Young People in Germany.”
At 2:00 p.m., we welcomed the students from Zehlendorf to a small picnic. After a short preparation period for both teams, the debate began.
During the 45-minute debate, the participants discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a possible social media ban for young people, based on the Australian model. A wide range of arguments were presented. The supporters of the ban emphasized the protection of children and teenagers from cyberbullying, misinformation, and addictive behavior. The opposing side, however, highlighted the importance of freedom of expression, digital connectivity, and media literacy. Schadow-Gymnasium deservedly won the debate, and both teams impressed the audience with their speaking skills.
Overall, it was a very interesting and educational day that we will remember fondly.
